Today, we embark on a thrilling adventure into the wonders of science with our Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP) experiment. At Keiki Lab, we believe every experiment is a story waiting to unfold, and today, we reveal the secret powers of a remarkable material hidden in plain sight!

What We Need:

  • Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP): ¼ teaspoon
  • Food coloring: 1 drop
  • Water in a bottle: 4 oz

Equipment:

  • 2 Plastic cups (9 oz)
  • 1 Plastic mixing spoon
  • 1 Plastic bag
  • 1 Measuring spoon - Teaspoon (¼)

Safety Precautions: Adult supervision is recommended! Avoid ingestion of SAP crystals. They are non-toxic but may pose a choking hazard. Seek medical attention immediately if ingested. Promptly clean up spills to prevent slipping hazards. Dispose of SAP properly; do not drain in the kitchen or flush down the toilet. Dispose with normal household waste.

Let’s Dive In!

  1. Prepare Your Lab Space: Find a cozy spot and place two plastic cups, a water bottle, a spoon, and a plastic bag ready for action.
  2. The Magic Begins: Fill the cup halfway with water (about 4 oz).
